Ingham Region Catholic Parishes have installed CCTV primarily to protect Church property against destructive acts and theft, and to help identify perpetrators of crimes.
The CCTV system aims to provide a deterrent to potential offenders; facilitate the identification, apprehension and prosecution of offenders in relation to crime and public order.
It will provide reassurance by enhancing community safety, and protect Church buildings and their assets.
The CCTV system will be operated in a manner that is consistent with respect for the individuals’ privacy.
There is recognition that members of the Church community and the public may have matters of concern in respect to CCTV operations and so should contact the Parish Priest or Parish Compliance Officer who will provide advice and assistance in relation to the Privacy Act 1988 and their individual rights.
